Diaper Rash and Red Skin

You and your mother spent the night with me last night.  This morning after changing you, I suggested to your mother that we get something stronger for your diaper rash.  It was fire-red angry looking.  She and your aunt went to the pharmacy to pick up some  zinc-oxide.  Later in the day, she said it looked better.  I told your mother that when she was a baby and when your aunt was a baby, they rarely had diaper rashes.  I like to think it’s because I never used chemical laced wipes on their little bottoms, and I air-dried them frequently.  Instead of wipes, I used a baby-washcloth sometimes with a smudge of mild-baby soap,  sometimes with simple warm water.  I always air-dried them for several minutes before putting them in a new diaper.  And never with any kind of ointment or powder.  Entièrement naturel.  🙂

Aside from the diaper rash of course, you do have your father’s complexion at times.  Observe in the photo below.  hehe…  🙂

Same complexion?

Same complexion?

Here’s a little bit of trivia that I did not know about. Today your mother and I indulged in chocolate bars. Mmmmmm.  Your mother said, “You know, chocolate used to be a form of currency.” Indeed, I did not know that. Everyone once in awhile, your mother and aunt will surprise me with their knowledge. I know you’ll be doing that with your parents as well. You will be smart, and strong, and funny, and gracious (courteous and considerate).

Umbilical Cord

Today your mum was worried about your umbilical cord so we took you to the doctor’s. The nurse pulled the cord up to clean it out. Your mum and I were terrified. It did look painful. She said it was in good shape to begin with and just advised your mother to pull it up when cleaning. A little bit of blood was normal.

I don’t know who was traumatized more: you or your mother and I. Your mom will let it air dry more. Poor thing. We love you.

One Week!

Addison, sweet baby-girl. You’re one week old today. 🙂

This evening I helped your Aunt Rachael with her history final. She’s going to school at ICC. I hope you will have a complete education when you grow up. Perhaps a Masters or even a Doctorate. You surely will be a smart woman, as well as beautiful. Undoubtedly, you will have a fine sense of humor too. Both of your parents can be quite funny at times (they make your Gramma Cat laugh).

Ravenous & Alert

Addison, your Aunt Rachael and I went to visit your dad and mum.  We cooked dinner for them.  Your Dad was tired, he works very hard.  His face was red from being in the sun, and your mom reminded him to wear sun block.

Your Grandma Sherry called to check on you and your dad and mum.  She said she’s going to come over to your house next week and teach your mum how to cook.  I’ll probably go to her house this weekend to help her with her computer.  I’ll never forget the moment you were born.  I squeeled in shock, and your Grandma Sherry had both hands to the sides of her face, saying “Ohhhhhh!”   🙂

Your mom said that you were at her breast nearly non-stop last night for about 4 hours.  You know exactly what you want now. 🙂 Your mom looked very tired this evening.  Your Aunt Rachael and I cleaned up quickly and left you and your young parents to settle down for the evening.

You were very alert today.  You mom and dad see you like this often enough, but usually when I see you, you are sleeping.  Not today.  Your beautiful blue eyes were wide awake and looking at everything.  Sometimes you looked contemplative, other times you looked puzzled.  Maybe I read too much into your expressions. In any case you are riveting to look upon.
